What is the Net Impact Student Forum for Social Innovation?
The Net Impact Student Forum for Social Innovation is a student-run social venture pitch competition for young social entrepreneurs taking place at the Microsoft New England Research & Development (NERD) Center on November 17, 2012. The SFSI will give students with start-up social ventures the opportunity to compete for seed funding to help grow their social enterprise.
Enterprises will assessed in three rounds by esteemed judges in the social sector. Enterprises that advance to the third and final round will judged by audience members who will vote on the recipient of the first place prize of $7,000 and consulting hours based on which venture they believe will have the highest social impact.
Other elements of the forum include a social enterprise marketplace in which socially minded businesses and organizations can sell their goods, network with students, and grow their brand recognition. Additionally, we will feature another networking opportunity mirroring the concept of speed dating in which will be able to gain valuable insight from established social entrepreneurs on a one on one basis. Our hope is that after delving deeper into an entrepreneur’s story and getting an in-depth look at their enterprise, students will donate to the organization that inspired them most. Lastly, Net Impact will host distinguished social entrepreneurs as keynote speakers to give context to the importance of funding social entrepreneurs.
