Parents and family members are invited (and encouraged) to participate in the concurrent Parent/Family Orientation program. The Parent and Family Orientation is designed to introduce you to the broad academic and social aspects of the university community. You will have the opportunity to meet representatives from the academic colleges, participate in campus services presentations, and to see firsthand many of the wonderful university resources available to new students. Parents and family members will also interact and network with each other throughout the program.
The Undergraduate Student Fee supports New Student Orientation costs, including the opportunity to have two complimentary guests participate in the Parent and Family Program, Welcome Week Activities, and Parent Association membership. Students will automatically be billed this fee upon enrollment; more information may be found on the Student Financial Services website, under the Student Accounts tab. There are additional costs for additional guests (above the two complimentary), as well as for guest housing should you choose to stay on campus. Added costs must be paid by credit card at the time of registration by credit card.
Family members of students who wish to experience campus life may elect to stay on campus overnight. Guest housing is available on a first-come, first-served basis and pre-registration is required. Guest housing registration will close one week prior to your selected session, or earlier if we reach capacity. We have included a list of hotels for those who prefer off-campus accommodations.
On-campus guest housing is in upper-class, apartment-style, air-conditioned rooms. Though we do our best to accommodate single attendees in single-occupancy apartments, there are times that we need to place two single attendees in a double-occupancy apartment. In this case, each guest would be provided a separate bedroom but common spaces (living room/bathroom) would be shared.
Parent and Family Program Sessions
Click here for the parent/family schedule. Final program schedules will also be provided at the time of check-in on the day of your session.
All guests attending the Parent and Family Orientation Program and staying on campus should check in at the West Village E lobby. Guests not staying on campus should check in at the Stetson West residence hall lobby with their student.
What to Bring
We encourage you and your family members to pack lightly. Remember that there will be a lot of walking around campus, so comfortable shoes and clothing are necessities. New England weather can be unpredictable; it’s always a good idea to bring a light jacket or sweater for evening activities. Accommodations for students and family members include bed linens, pillow, and towels.
Students and family members are housed separately so each guest should pack his or her own belongings.
Please note: For a checklist of what items students should bring, please see our essentials page.
